Steamboat Seasons
Steamboat Seasons Come for the skiing, stay for the summer! Why go anywhere else?
People have been appreciating the rural real estate of Colorado since the Yampatika Ute Indians began migrating here. Following the herds into the mountains in the Spring, the Utes made Steamboat Springs their home. So long before John Crawford and his fellow settlers arrived in 1875 to build their farms and ranches, mountain real estate in Colorado was ALREADY in demand as a place of beauty and abundance.
Winter Wonderland
"The Flying Norseman", Carl Howelson, hit the slopes soon after: in 1913, Howelson founded the Winter Sports Club, increasing the value of mountain real estate in Colorado even then! Today Steamboat is home to over 50 Olympians, from both summer and winter sports.
Today, thousands of people come to Steamboat to ski in both winter and spring seasons. Steamboat offers terrain for everyone! With 165 trails, 3000 acres and an average of 330 inches of Champagne Powder annually, this is the place for the young and forever young! There's no comparison - the skiing and boarding reigns supreme at this particular parcel of Rocky Mountain Real Estate. In Colorado we have been blessed with some of the best snow in the world…and Steamboat Springs is the crème de la crème.
OK... we all know that Steamboat has great alpine skiing and boarding….but what else can you do in winter? From steaming in a hot spring, to snowshoeing across the frozen Divide, there are a plethora of activities for the winter enthusiast.
Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing allow you to get onto the road less traveled. If you are not a gear head, Steamboat has plenty of retailers happy to set you up with equipment rentals. For the young (and the young at heart) there's also sledding and tubing, not to mention indoor and outdoor ice skating. Here with your honey? Book a romantic evening sleigh ride (by horse or CAT).
Prefer a motor to make things exciting? Grab a snowmobile and head for the hills. Or better yet, enroll in a winter driving school to slip and slide your way through their challenging auto courses! ('Snowmo' is highly recommended for Floridians and other sunbirds…or people who just like to lose control.)
It's not called Steamboat SPRINGS for nothing...
It's not just about the snow. When the thaw hits, there is a lot more to appreciate in Steamboat. Like spring in the Springs! Both the charming downtown area and the rural real estate in this Colorado area offer plenty of opportunity for the retiring and the active. Hundreds of miles of trails add excitement and challenge to an athlete's day, while the incredible beauty stirs any artists' soul. There are over 150 natural springs spread throughout Steamboat, over 100 restaurants and bars and 93 shops and galleries. In spring, lush green mountains beckon and the wildflowers pop up everywhere.
For those who appreciate the rustic life, there are miles of trails across the farms and ranches of mountain real estate in the Springs. Many open their pastures to the local hikers, equestrians and bikers, sharing their phenomenal rural real Estate. In Colorado, you won't find much better! Steamboat's many stables help you fulfill the dream of riding across the range, with excursions ranging from an hour to an overnight pack trip.
Here's another angle - did someone mention fishing? In Steamboat, it's no fisherman's tale - the rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout really are 'that big'! Three-season fly fishing is one of Steamboat's best kept secrets. But the word is getting out… so get over here! Prefer a little lake fishing? Not a problem. There are plenty of accessible lakes, not to mention those reached only by biking, hiking or horseback!
"Have mountain, will climb." The peaks of Yampa offer everything from bouldering to the advanced inverted face. See the breathtaking valley from new heights! You can take the Silver Bullet Gondola and access 30 miles of trails up top!
And if it ever does rain, go indoors and scale a climbing wall at one of the many shops in town that specialize in all things vertical.
Spring means white water and the release of that pent up desire to go rafting. From calm and tranquil tubing straights to wild white water rafting in all its spraying glory, the need to get wet can totally be fulfilled.
Steamboat golfing is great. Public and private clubs offer captivating views and World Class challenging courses. You might consider moving onto one of these developed courses nestled amongst the scenic mountain Real Estate. In Colorado, summer or winter, spring or fall, you can't beat the view.
Fun in the Sun...
Summers offer all the above, as well as Steamboat's famous festivals. The hills are alive with the sound of music during the "Strings in the Mountains" festival. The Cowboys' Round-up Days festival celebrates Independence Day with a rodeo and scores of Western-themed activities to match. The Steamboat Wine Festival, the Routt County Fair…the list of summer fun goes on and on.
The Family Fun Park opens for - well - family fun! And don't forget the 24,000 foot Howler Alpine Slide - if you are daring enough to do the drop.
And there's those hot air balloons you'll see on the horizon early every morning. Feel inspired to go up up and away? It's so quiet up there, you'll feel transported and terrific at the same time.
Falling for Steamboat?
Fall is simply the most beautiful time of the year. The quaking aspens will have you shakin' with wonder. This is the time for photographers and painters to capture the essence of Steamboat. The Elk love it too - just hear them buglin'!
Always wanted your own B&B? Check out the fabulous lodges, and then buy your own piece of rural real estate in Colorado. Relish the quiet of the mountains and the adventure of the outdoors.
Does the fall breeze get you in the mood for hunting? Craig, a town just 45 minutes from Steamboat, is the Elk Hunting Capital of the World. Deer, antelope, and other big game make this rural real estate in Colorado some of the best hunting in the country.
Steamboat Springs- the all-season get away!
